“Sweat-iquette”

I came across an article in a magazine as I was sweating away during an early morning cardio session at Club Sweat. So many people either forget or just don’t have some of the basic “gym” etiquette. This article made me laugh because its the usual moans and groans we’ve all experienced.

So here goes,

1) What’s an appropriate amount of nudity in the locker room?

I’m a very shy person, so I’d rather not be stark naked prancing around the locker room, others however; have no problem baring it all. The answer to this question is simple: It’s not about how naked you are–but more of how long you’re all out there. Basically, its not your home. Keep your birthday suit in brief and change quickly. Some people don’t mind the nudity–others are uncomfortable.

2) Chatting on the cellphone while on the treadmill. How do you get them to keep it down?

Sometimes a look in their direction is enough for them to get the hint. You can let them know its bothersome. Club Sweat doesn’ t have a “no-cellphone” policy  considering most members use the facility during their work hours. Its just a matter of respecting the environment you’re in. When i’m doing cardio, i’m more in to my ipod than the conversation next me, but others may have a different feeling towards it. Just keep in mind (if you’re the one on your cell phone) that there are people listening to what your saying.

3) “I love a good workout but not the sweat someone has left behind.” Whats the best approach?

Club Sweat provides towel service for all members. Hand towels to workout with and shower towels for the locker rooms. Its encouraged to wipe down equipment after using to keep the facility clean and well sanitized. There’s nothing wrong with politely asking the person to wipe the equipment before they leave.

4) “How do I handle equipment hogs?”

Limited memberships at Club Sweat is nice because there’s often not a wait time for equipment, but if you must–simply ask if you can work in with them on that machine.
